Conference recording from the Symposium presented by Diana Browning Wright
Learn how to identify, assess and develop effective interventions in the LRE for special education students who exhibit dangerous and/or extremely disruptive behavior. You'll explore emerging trends, research and legal considerations that could affect the use of physical restraint and seclusion as behavior management techniques in the school setting. You'll also learn how to select interventions and determine the need for other agency involvement. Interventions will include function-based solutions, mental health therapy, proactive structures and environmental structuring for students with a wide range of disabilities, from substantive intellectual disability through emotional disturbance and mental disorders. Issues related to documentation of intervention, program supervision, and potential negligence and staff response errors will be reviewed, as well as determining evidence-based interventions matched to student profiles.
