To comply with NCLB and IDEA mandates regarding research-based reading instruction, many states and districts are embracing RTI through a multi-tiered reading model – originally designed for early reading intervention. But middle and high school students have unique reading needs.
In this 90-minute, recorded audio conference, Dr. Gibbs will share insights gained through research and hands-on experience, showing you the components needed to implement RTI at your school district’s secondary level as well as how to:
- Analyze your current adolescent literacy program, including content area instruction as it relates to RTI parameters
- Use RTI to improve academic performance of all students and achieve AYP literacy-related objectives
- Identify struggling readers using existing data from high-stakes testing
- Identify additional data that can maximize efficacy of intervention selection and literacy outcomes
- Incorporate literacy instruction in all curricula by encouraging and equipping faculty members to participate in your school’s literacy and RTI framework
- Recognize research-based reading intervention strategies specific to middle and high school students
- Select specific adolescent literacy intervention programs and materials from commercially available resources
- Evaluate and create progress monitoring tools specific to adolescent literacy goals
