This course explains the IDEA's eligibility standards and evaluation rules for children along the autism spectrum. Substantive requirements for the evaluation are spelled out, including gathering relevant functional and developmental information, providing and administering appropriate assessments, using existing data, and more. Procedural requirements are also detailed, including obtaining consent, options when consent is refused and prior written notice, focusing on issues involving children with autism and their parents. The course also provides case law illustrating real-life application of the IDEA’s rules.
