IDEA ’04 states that a local educational agency may use a process to determine whether a child has a specific learning disability based in part as to whether the child responds to scientific, research-based intervention. This course explores the history and purpose of response to intervention and the new language of the law related to determining special education eligibility for children with specific learning disabilities. The course also examines the benefits and challenges to implementing a response to intervention model and offers steps to creating a successful RTI model.
